Not enough graduate jobs says CBI

The CBI have reported that the numbers of graduates is increasing whilst the number of graduate jobs is decreasing.

The report even draw the rather derisory comment that "they can't even get up in the morning".  Which was perhaps a rather harsh and general slur for a group who, many of which, don't need to get up as they can't get a job!!

There are now 10.1 million graduates in the UK and only 9 million graduate level jobs.   The CBI are quoted as saying that they expect the number of jobs at graduate level to be 42% by 2012, but with 50% of people starting a degree by 2010.

There have been comments recently of the 'downgrading' of degrees having created many more universities and degree courses in the UK.  It would seem that the net effect is that business as a unit views graduates as poorer quality, often lacking in the soft skills that are required for graduate jobs.  If these reports stand up then the government will need to rethink it's higher education policy.
