Greene King Launch Graduate Scheme
In news that will thrill students and graduates nationwide, popular Bury based brewers Greene King has launched a graduate career scheme to prepare graduates for pub management roles.
The 48-week course, which is the first industrial placement in the pub trade, is designed to prepare recent graduates for the role of deputy manager at a Greene King pub.
Greene King currently operate a number of pubs and hotels throughout the UK, under the names of Greene King Inns, Old English Inns, Hungry Horse and the Scotland based Belhaven Pubs.
The scheme places Graduates in an allocated “training house” where they will get hands on experience of the day to day running of a public house. As well as this vital experience, graduates will also be able to study to achieve industry recognised qualifications at certificate IV level relating to personal license, beer and cellar quality, health and safety and first aid.
Terri Hardy, project manager for industrial placements at Greene King, said: “We want to encourage graduates to see the pub industry as an inspiring and viable career choice.
"By the age of 25, our graduates could be running an exciting business with a sizeable team, hundreds of loyal customers, and a £1m turnover.
“The programme will help us recruit and retain the very best for our business, maintaining the high service standards we set.”
Participants will get a personal mentor to guide them through the course. Last month the first group of graduates underwent an induction programme at Greene King’s Bury St Edmonds headquarters and have now joined their induction houses in London and Cheltenham. Greene King are currently awaiting more graduates to take part in the scheme this November.
