Graduate jobs market holds steady despite credit crunch
With much uncertainty in the UK economy the graduate jobs market appears to be holding steady with under 6% of graduates out of work compared with over 6% at this point last year.
If you're preparing for exams now then here this, the worst unemployment rates can be found amongst the lowest grades, with employers naturally favoring candidates with stronger grades. Those with a first could expect less than 4 % to be unemployed compared with over 7% for those achieving a 2.2.
These figures are based upon figures from last years university leavers and hence may not reflect this years graduate jobs market. Given the pressure on companies to cut costs in the present climate, it may be that graduates present an opportunity for cheaper labor.
What the figures do show is that graduate opportunities are defying the economic trend and this should encourage any present undergraduates or indeed people considering a degree to give it their all.
